Where to buy jirai-kei clothes in the UK and US

Japanese jirai-kei and ryōsan-gata brands, real prices in ¥, £ and $, how to order through a proxy, resale options and UK/US import rules.

Updated 2026-10-11

The main jirai-kei and ryōsan-gata labels (Ank Rouge, DearMyLove, ROJITA and Secret Honey among them) sell mostly through Japanese sites such as ZOZOTOWN and Rakuten, and many of those do not ship abroad. From the UK or US you usually either buy new through a proxy service that orders and forwards for you, or buy second-hand from sellers on eBay and other resale apps. On the pages we checked, a blouse, skirt or dress cost roughly ¥4,000-¥18,700 (about £19-£90 or $25-$118) before shipping and fees.

Prices checked October 2026. Yen prices are as shown on the retailer pages listed in the sources. Conversions use about £1 = ¥208 and $1 = ¥158 (rates for 9 October 2026), rounded, and will move with the exchange rate.

How to buy from the UK or US

Option 1: a proxy service

ZOZOTOWN does not ship internationally and has no English site, according to proxy company Remambo. Gear Patrol makes the same point about Japanese sites in general: many will not take foreign cards or ship abroad.

A proxy service fixes this. The steps are broadly the same everywhere:

  1. Copy the product link from ZOZOTOWN, Rakuten or the brand's site into the proxy's order form.
  2. Pay the item price plus the proxy's service fee.
  3. The proxy buys the item and has it delivered to its warehouse in Japan.
  4. You can combine several orders into one box, then pick a shipping method and pay for international postage.
  5. You receive a tracked parcel, typically in one to two weeks depending on the method.

Fees vary. A 2026 comparison by Japan Pop Now listed per-item fees of about ¥200-¥400 for services including Buyee, ZenMarket, FROM JAPAN and Neokyo, with extra commission on auction wins at some. Remambo says it adds ¥200 for domestic shipping on ZOZOTOWN orders. International shipping is charged on top and depends on weight and speed, so get a quote before you commit.

Option 2: second-hand and resale

eBay has sellers in Japan listing used pieces from these brands. One example checked in October 2026: a pre-owned Ank Rouge dress at $55 with $60 SpeedPAK shipping to the US, a total of $115 before tax. Shipping can cost as much as the item, so check the delivered price.

Depop and Vinted are also worth searching by brand name, especially for UK buyers who want to avoid international postage. We could not check current listings or prices on either app for this guide.

Import tax and customs

UK

According to GOV.UK, for goods you buy from abroad:

  • £135 or less: VAT should already be included in the price at checkout, and there is no customs duty on ordinary goods like clothes.
  • Over £135: VAT, and possibly customs duty, are charged before delivery or when you collect. Royal Mail, Parcelforce or the courier will send you a bill, and usually hold the parcel for about three weeks before returning it.
  • VAT is worked out on the total value including postage, packaging and insurance.

Splitting purchases so each parcel stays at £135 or under keeps things simpler, but check what the seller or proxy declares.

US

U.S. Customs and Border Protection suspended duty-free "de minimis" treatment for low-value parcels from all countries from 29 August 2025. That means even cheap parcels from Japan can now attract duty, and carriers collect it. Some sellers include it: the eBay listing above said import fees were included in the shipping price. Trade rules can change at short notice, so check the current CBP guidance or ask your proxy or carrier for a landed-cost estimate before ordering.

Avoiding fakes and knockoffs

As with any popular style, expect to come across unbranded pieces sold under "jirai kei" keywords and resale listings where the brand name or photos may not match the item you receive. An unbranded piece sold honestly can be a cheap way to try the look; the problem is paying brand prices for something that is not what it claims to be. To lower the risk:

  • Buy new from the brand's own shop or a large Japanese retailer such as ZOZOTOWN or Rakuten, through a proxy if needed.
  • On resale apps, ask for photos of the brand tag and care label, and compare them with photos on the brand's own listings.
  • Be cautious when a "brand" item costs far less than the prices in the tables above.
  • Use a payment method with buyer protection.
